air source heat pump

Air Source Heat Pumps
offered throughout Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

Air source heat pumps extract usable heat from the air. Using a system similar in principle to refrigerators, an air source heat pump will generate a surprising amount of heat, even on a cold day. Even if the temperature outside is below freezing, an air source heat pump will still work.

There are two main types of air source heat pumps, air-to-air and air-to-water. Air-to-air is similar to an air conditioning system, delivering warm air throughout the house to provide space heating. Air-to-water air source heat pumps use the heat extracted from the air to heat water.

This will usually be able to heat water to between 50 and 60°C, this is ideal for underfloor heating, but it can then be 'topped up' with a conventional boiler. Because the water is pre-heated, an air source heat pump will give you savings on your heating bill. Like solar thermal systems or ground source heat pumps, air source systems do use electricity to run the pump.
